Somehow I don't think they'll be voting for Dubya.

And if Kerry wins, within a year almost every Punk band will have songs attacking Kerry.

    Carl,

I totally disagree, and that's not just because I'm a Kerry supporter. No punk bands were putting out "Rock Against Clinton" cds. To suggest that these guys are only attacking Bush because it's the "in" thing to do is totally disrespectful. These guys can see with their own eyes, and think with their own brains, and have come to the conclusion, much as I have, that we are heading in the wrong direction under the current administration...Green Day has LONG been strong allies with the Democratic Party, and have done fundraisers and such for several elections now...

    Unhappy

Wicked! I'm a 38 yr old immature High School nerd looking to be cool and for acceptance.

That's a rather narrow minded view on what punk as an outlet is Carl....

Punk to me, is one of the few styles of music with any passion left in it. So much shit out there is void of passion. That's why It's the music and style of band that I play in.

punk is kinda hard to put your finger on though. i don't consider the retreads punk (if that's the band you were talking about) but more of just a rock band just like i don't consider D Generation punk. when i think of punk i think of the exploited, total chaos, the virus, lower class brats, clit 45, ghb, a global threat, uk subs and stuff like that. i think bands like this are political for the sake of being political, hate the government because, well it's the government and that's what we are supposed to do.

hey, i'm all for freedom of speech, free will, protest, blah blah blah, but if you think that people are just going to go about their merry way in 2 years if Kerry is elected without saying a peep, you are wrong and you know it. some people just bitch and moan for the sake of bitching and moaning and it that goes for bands also. can you honestly say that you do not believe that a band thought, "hey, bashing bush is the hip trendy thing to do these days, if we could get on that bandwagon that would mean some good exposure for us"

it has been done and will be done again. it's just another fade like big hair and spandex in the late 80's, flannel in the early 90's, goth in the late 90's, and those god f****n awful trucker hats that are around today. they were ugly the first time around and they look no better now. that goes for those sweatband/wristband things too. weren't they something worn in the 70's for middleschool gym class? what's up with them?

    got off topic there, sorry.

<font size="4" face="Arial">Lets not forget something Sandy, while you were doing your Pretty Boy Floyd thing, I was in Punk bands, going to Punk shows 4 nights a week, and spending what money I had on Punk albums. If you see any pictures of me from the 80's, there is no doubt what I was listening to and what I considered myself to be mostly. I can say I have seen many bands that some would have killed to have seen.

I got out of the damn "scene" due to a growing ignorance running rampant in the "scene". Punk, the outlet for originality and "being yourself". It's also the only group of people that constantly attacked me for growing my hair long. I got gum thrown in my hair at a 7 Seconds show in '90, and got crap from the crowd the whole time. 7 Seconds themselves had longer hair than I did at the time, but that didn't register with anybody in the audience.

My generalization of the audience Punk has is a sweeping somewhat tongue-in-cheek comment my friends and I used to make sitting outside of the shows. Look around a show at some point. Look at the kids, tell me where they would be if it wasn't for the scene. What I said wasn't a complete knock on Punk. Infact, most Punks do admit it is the last outlet for the lost. Nerds, geeks, what have you, in High School, they are the "lost" kids usually. Many of them want to be cool, and Punk (especially in the 80's!) will gain you "instant cool".

You're not really an "Anarchist", are you Sandy??? Please tell me you aren't.

Bill, I agree with you that The Retreads are not punk. We are more in the Social Distortion vein, but we have a punk attitude that comes across. That's why all the shows we do are with punk bands. The punks "hardcore" and "pop" seem to both like us.

Punk to me is an attitude is how I sum it up.

Bashing Bush is the hip trendy thing, But I think Green Day don't really need exposure. Although their last CD somewhat tanked, so maybe they do.

Carl, I have been into punk and admired the bands since I was in the 6 grade when I first heard "Disco Sucks" by D.O.A. I went to a lot of punk shows in my teens and a lot of metal shows. I was friends with the only 2 hardcore punkers in high school and I like you had long hair. Hey, I used to get hassled all the time for having long blue black spiked out hair. I went to see Cinderella with my wife at the time in the early ninety's and got completely hassled by two guys while we were walking to the venue. They were calling me a fag, posuer, fucking queer....meanwhile my wife who was a dead ringer for Debbie Harry is on my arm. These guys were big and I thought fuck it, I'm not taking this shit. So I stopped, turned around and took off my leather jacket and said you guys wanna fuckin' go lets go! and they were dumbfounded. Meanwhile I'm shitting my pants thinking I'm going to die. They did a complete about face and said whooaa...dude were just fuckin' with ya' chill...etc. I said you know what I look exactly like the guys you are going to watch tonight and you're calling me a fag?? They kind of realized what idiots they were and sort of apologized. Meanwhile my wife thought I was insane. That was one of a few times I got hassled and it was usually by people that listened to the style of music I was playing. I think kids these days are a lot cooler and more open then when we were growing up. I remember the punks back in my youth were quite violent and aggressive towards anybody that wasn't like them.

When I play shows now and someone starts getting too aggressive, it's not tolerated by the other kids and gets shutdown quickly.

Carl what I'm trying to say is "I wanna destroy, power supply" Me and Anarchist...LOL....no opinionated yes.

And Michale Graves of Misfits fame is a strident Republican who wholeheartedly backs Bush. The difference between him and Green Day is one's career benefits from who they back via exposure from MTV and the entertainment media. The other is ostracized by his peers for sticking their head up and not running into the sea with the rest of the lemmings. Anybody want to guess which is which?

I don't agree Sandy, you can always find a Punk band (American and otherwise) who is out to attack the Government. I didn't say that Green Day would attack, but obviously a Punk band will. It is the nature of the beast. Punk is mainly an outlet for the "Anarchist" (aka immature High School nerd looking to be cool and for acceptance), and therefor you won't have to look far to find a complaint. So I wasn't attacking Green Day...this time.

And to say I was "disrespectful", HA!!! We are talking about a Punk band, being a Rock And Roll band! Disrespect is part of the style.
